The Loft Barn is one of the oldest and largest existing barns in New Zealand, its survival was ensured by the innovative and original owner and builder – James Donald. Constructed in 1868, The Loft Barn features beautiful heart totara wood throughout, and its floors are reinforced with concrete. Its solid build has enabled it to stand over many generations.

The Loft Barn boasts a soaring chapel-like ceiling, captivating contrast between old beams and columns, sparkling lights and glittering mirrors. 120 of your guests can dine on the top floor of the Loft Barn, before making their way downstairs to a sprawling dance and open bar area.  

The name we know today came about in the 1990’s, when the barn was converted into a popular restaurant ‘The Loft’. Sensitive restoration has transformed the historic building into a stunning setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions. It has been running as a romantic and rustic wedding venue since 2001. You become a part of the unique and special heritage when you hold one of your most memorable days in the Loft.
