We offer inclusive packages to enable you to hold your wedding over a whole weekend in one stunning venue, from Friday midday until Sunday evening, with accommodation in the homestead for 18 guests. You can then enjoy the entire estate for your wedding, hold a ‘next day’ event, and provide accommodation for your guests.

The sensitively restored historic barn “The Loft” is the perfect setting for your country wedding, with a chapel/banquet area upstairs and bar and dance floor downstairs. Our caterers are Crescendo Cuisine. The bar is fully equipped (you can have keg beer on tap) and we are BYO. There is a dedicated dance floor and you can use our music system at no charge, or the hire system – fantastic and inexpensive  (see our ‘useful links’ page for hire details). Bands and DJs on approval. The Loft is licensed to serve alcohol and play live music until midnight weekends and 11 pm mid-week. The venue is closed at 12.30 am weekends and 11.30 am weekdays.

We were looking for a barn venue from the start, and Tarureka was one of the very first we came across and we fell in love with it.

You can choose to hold your wedding ceremony outdoors on the soft green lawn of the ‘wedding grove’, surrounded by historic trees and native birds, in front of the Loft or on the spacious lawn tennis court in front of the homestead. If the weather is not perfect, the upstairs of our barn - the Loft - is a magical space for a ceremony.

The Loft can accommodate up to 120 guests and cosy wood-fired heating makes it ideal for winter as well as summer weddings and events.

winter weddings

Tarureka is much sought after as a wedding venue in the summer months. We are thrilled that it is now almost as popular in the winter – because we believe it is the perfect winter wedding venue. The cosy wood fire ensures that everyone is very warm, no matter what the weather outside, and the sparkling lights and glowing Totara beams create a wonderfully romantic atmosphere.

The weather in winter in the Wairarapa is surprisingly settled and outdoor ceremonies are still a possibility, with guests often able to sip champagne in the winter sun before going into the Loft at dusk for dining and dancing. The flexibility of being able to decide at the last minute on the location of the ceremony – either in our beautiful gardens or in the upstairs grandeur of the Loft – is another advantage of a winter wedding at Tarureka.

Tarureka Estate is only 50 minutes from Wellington, but with its lovely historic gardens and rural surrounds, it will take you a world away.

We honestly could not have asked for a better place to celebrate such a special time in our lives, and we are so happy with how the day went.

next day brunch

Our caterers can provide a delicious next day brunch in the Loft or in the Homestead or you can self-cater. Talk to Zane of Chef on Demand about his coffee cart and filled croissants for a Sunday morning treat for your guests. Our local establishment, the nearby Tin Hut is open all weekend if you feel like a change of scenery for the night-before dinner or the day-after lunch.
